What You Need

The Mosquito Mist Away system is very simple to install and operate.   The first thing you need to determine are the areas you want to cover.   The first area to determine is the boundary area.  Then you must identify what areas within the boundary area need coverage.

Determining The Boundary Area And Inner-Areas

To size a ‘Boundary Area’:  The Boundary Area is usually the perimeter of the property.  You should plan on spacing the nozzles approximately 10 – 15 feet apart around the boundary.   The boundary can be created  by attaching the nozzles and tubing to a fence, trees, posts, or if you like, they can be installed in the ground or raised bed using risers.

To size an ‘Inner Area’:  The inner areas can be areas where you want to provide supplemental protection, such as decks, pools, gazebos, or entertainment areas.  You should plan on spacing your nozzles no more than 10 feet apart within these areas.   The nozzles should be attached to a structure (building eaves, fence, deck) as high as possible to allow the mist to spread more efficiently.   For example, a yard  has a deck attached to the house, the nozzles are attached to the roof eaves so the mist is distributed over and down on the deck area.   If you have a raised deck with a patio below, you may want to consider adding nozzles to the lower section for increased protection.

DETERMINING TUBING LENGTH AND PATH

Tubing Length: After determining the dimensions and developing a rough outline for nozzle placement, you then determine the total ‘tubing’ length.   The tubing is available in 500 foot lengths, so divide the total line length by  500 to determine the quantity of tubing product needed.

Tubing Path: You will also have to count how many 90 degree turns the line must make.   If the line, often referred to as a run, turns a corner at 90 degrees, you should install a 90 degree elbow to allow for a clean and professional looking installation. Rises and falls must also be taken into consideration.  An example of a rise and fall would be a fence gate where the tubing is running along the fence line.  It must turn down from the fence line to the ground (fall), across the threshold of the gate and then must turn upward (a rise) on the other side and then turn again to continue down the fence line.  In this scenario, 4 union elbows would be required.

Branching: A very simple implementation only involves a single run around the perimeter which creates the boundary.  Typical installations however, require multiple areas to be covered resulting in multiple runs, this is referred to as branching.  Each requires the installation of a union tee.  The formula for determining the number of union tees is:  runs - 1 = # of union tees.

Zones: If there are inner areas that you would like to be able to turn off while the boundary remains active then you must install a ball valve.  The area must be self contained and must not be a part of the boundary.   It is important to remember that every nozzle in the run after the ball valve would be inactive if the valve is turned OFF.  An example where you may want to create a zone is shown in the diagram above.  The deck is identified as zone 1 and the boundary as zone 2.  While entertaining guests you may want to turn off zone 1 so no misting occurs in that zone, while misting continues in zone 2.

CHOOSING YOUR MISTING CONCENTRATES

Picking the right set of concentrates for your application depends on your personal preference and the types of insects you are trying to control.

Low-Toxic Pyrethrum, is an organic based insecticide made from crushed Chrysanthemums.  This product kills over 200 bugs.  The product has a low toxicity rating and does not leave a residue.  The product emits a light smell. If you do not like the smell you can add Odor Pro, to neutralize the odor.

Often at the start of the season the system must run more frequently to reduce the overall population.  Once the insect population decreases, the system can be set to mist less frequently.  We recommend that you purchase enough misting concentrate for two fills, so that you will have misting concentrate on hand when needed.
